It will be like a new phone afterwards, you'll have to login and set everything up again, so be sure you backup everything you want to be certain of keeping.
At the very least it'll hopefully give more time to find a replacement without having to worry about the old one acting up.

Thanks for the advice. I've had intermittent fingerprint and password issues too. I haven't done a factory reset; so far just a restart has worked, albeit temporarily. The phone is four years old, so it may just be time to retire it, especially if there's a good Black Friday deal.
I had been planning to look for a cheap phone to use as a mini-tablet, but after the recent troubles I've had, I think I'll be better off buying a nice new phone and using the current phone as the mini-tablet.
