Harry, I agree with you that it would not be proper to expect that it would be replaced. However, I have read posts from those who had their K1's replaced after they broke a screen, so it does happen.
I think one issue is the ergonomic design of these readers. To keep our hands off the screen and off the page advance button we must grip them by their thin edges. They need a much solider hand grip.
I originally had a Cybook. It survived several drops, but when it fell and impacted a certain way it was too much for it. I think any of these e-ink devices are prone to this depending on how they land. This is probably the real advantage of a flexible screen (as will appear in future e-ink book readers) -- It's not that I want to be able to bend my reader, its that I want it to flex during impact instead of breaking.
