Yup, the kindle hardware is obviously superior to kobos to my mind. Im always surprised when I observe people try to argue that point; its not even within the realm of debate. Kobos software is superior.
Some people dont like the aluminum casing of the oasis because they find it slippery, but theres little question it enhances the feeling of quality of the device. I prefer the rigidity after having a Clara that exhibits the problem of separating along one side edge.
The plastic kobos seem to develop imperfections in their rigidity whereby they can develop squeaks and looseness along seems when theyre subjected to the pressure of being pressed where buttons are, etc...
The biggest improvement to the new Kobos by my criteria is the buttons and their placement. I dont like how deep within the bezel theyre placed on the libra 1 and Forma and would prefer a touchscreen model over both of them as a result. If theyre also higher quality in their clickiness like the oasis, that would be the main reason to upgrade for me, which is pretty disappointing.
I am not sure the improved processor of the Sage will speed up the device if the bottleneck is the refresh rate of the screen. The improved refresh of the screen will improve the speed, but I dont have a problem with the speed of the current gen kobos.
I would much prefer the weight savings of the mobius screen, but I suspect theres a story there we dont know about explaining why it was dropped and I would bet it has to do with cost. Maybe the lighting issue with the band is what killed it. Im guessing that cost kobo a lot of money on returns.
