That's my experience, too. Also, a lot of book-related sweepstakes do the same thing. You enter a contest in the desperate hope of winning something like a box of popular hardcovers. Then, you start getting promotional emails from the five or twelve or whatever writers who sponsored it.
Some writers send great newsletters and don't sling them out too often. But many of the authors in book giveaways (and contests) think they have to send their readers an email each day, no matter that. ("I stubbed my toe this morning. BTW buy my book.")
That said, I might peek at that bookfunnel page anyway... But if I see anything that looks really good, it might be less trouble to
buy it.
