The backup is being done by the Kobo Utilities. It should be fairly quick, but, if you have a lot of books, the database can get big. But, it shouldn't be big enough to take 15 minutes.

The line where you stopped it is when the actual copy is being done. As @theducks said, is there something unusual about the destination? Is it possible that something else was trying to access the database? The only other thing would be the Kobo desktop application, and I always recommend not running it at the same time as calibre. And of course, the usual culprit for things like this is antivirus or malware protection. These could be blocking or slowing down the copy.
