The font in the images of the LRF pages is the stock LRF font, i.e. "Dutch801 Rm BT Roman" & while I'm not sure of the details of the Calibre ePub creation, I'd expect that it's also using a default font on the reader rather than bundling one. Maybe you only get a real italic if you override the CSS & bundle your own font?
