I just tried installing and registering version 1.17 and it worked for me using Windows 10. I suspect that the problem is caused either by Windows 7 or something else on your PC. Your web browser may impact the registration process.

Older versions of DeDRM work with older versions of calibre, even better than the current version does with calibre 5. You can ask for help at either Apprentice Alf's Blog or Apprentice Harper's GitHub.

Your changes are slim since 1.17 isn't working for you. You would have to find a version of Kindle for PC that will work on your system. The most recent version is not going to run there.

Method 3 is the most reliable and simple way to go. However there is the expense of buying a Kindle device to make that work. A newer PC would also solve the problem. Neither is a great option for only one book.
