The EU (and still UK) has distance selling regulations. Maybe Amazon can do that in the USA, but not UK, EU and some other places.

Also if it fails due to maker's defect in two years SOGA and similar means refund, repair or replace at Amazon's cost inc shipping. They are STILL trying to sell 2nd year warranties on some European sites. Apple was prosecuted in Italy for it. Currys and Argos in Ireland & UK try to sell warranties, they are really insurance schemes and the first 2 to 6 years are SOGA warranties with the retailer anyway (duration depends on product).
