I understand appeal of the dock (read while it is charging) but that is not my use case, and I have multiple charging pads available that work with multiple devices, which is my use case.
At this point my only USB-C chargeable device (apart from laptop) is Kindle Fire, which I have only ever charged with charging pad, so while I have USB-C charging cables, I’ve never used them, and it would be okay if I didn’t have to, ever. So I’ll pay for the wireless charging feature.
