Couldn't a series of unfortunate events resulted in a change in the direction that chicken took? What if chickens originally had four wings but two of the wings were so tasty that it led to a massive hunt for what eventually became the elusive four-winged chicken? Could that have resulted in the loss of the tasty wings via mutation to allow chickens to survive?
