No. Entering hibernation mode is instantaneous (just setting a flag to True), so the delay cannot be related to Last Modified.
With these changes, the Last Modified will stay dormant (only listening to events) during the lifetime of the chain. When the chain finishes, it will do only one update per date field.
Note that this means that books affected will be updated with the same timestamp (which equals the time the Last Modified hibernation period ended.)
