Actually, I do believe the official Apple Pencil 2 still requires magnetic pairing when you switch iPads. I don't believe it supports seamless switching like the Crayon does.
Makes sense since the Apple Pencils were designed for single user while the Crayon was designed for the classroom were presumably kids could be writing/drawing on different iPads.
