It used to be that the extension was azw on download for USB. Seems to be all azw3 extension since February 2021, some older ones are azw4 without human sensible filenames.
No .mobi from Amazon and the azw can be mobi(KF7) or KF8 before Feb 2021.

I just had a look at Amazon and I realize I was incorrect. You do get .azw3 for KF8 eBooks if the selected Kindle supports KF8. When you select to download, the selected Kindle is based on alphabetical order. So if you have a Kindle that does not support KF8 as the first Kindle alphabetically, then you get .azw. Make sure the selected Kindle can handle KF8. Also,if the first Kindle alphabetically does not support KF8, rename it so it's lower in the list.
