Tried rebooting computer and HD 8, no change. Plug and unplugging HD 8 gives me the chimes, but in File Explorer the Fire tab folder is empty, no ignored devices, Sending books to devices:Metadata Management is set to Automatic, format dates show %b, %y-does anything need to be changed here? No SD card in unit. I see in the data below that there is no suitable MTD devices found. What can I do to fix that? I'm not literate in terminology or where to find things, so specific help would be appreciated. Just treat me like I've never seen a computer before!!

I just noticed when I click on the Fire tab in the file explorer and right click, then select properties, it does show the right serial number of the HD 8. Firmware version 1.0. Just in case this helps. Thanks in advance for your help. Jim.
