Zoinks! That does sound pretty bad.

I don't mind reading books that disagree with my politics if they otherwise good books. But it sounds like Dan Simmons made the same mistake in Flashback that Steve Alten made in Shell Game: he tied the storyline so closely to current events that it was quickly outdated.
