But, the option is on a the "Developers options" screen. Which is only available if you specifically turn on developers mode. Hence why it is not officially supported. If you have it elsewhere, it means you have patched the firmware.

So is dark mode supported on the Aura One? I was unclear from your sentence:

whether this was just added for the Elipsa, or was added for all devices when the Elipsa was released.
It was added only the Elispa. I should have said "but can be..."

It sounds like dark mode is only for actual book pages, not the whole device? If so then personally I would find that less useful, and would be inclined not to update and lose the current functionality.
Yes, Dark mode is only for reading. But, it does the inversion properly as it does not invert images. I'm not sure why it is less useful. The amount of time I spend not reading when using my devices normally* is insignificant compared to the time I spend in a book reading. Shortly, I will go to bed and read for an hour or so. During that time, unless I use the dictionary or make an annotation, I won't see anything other than the book.

* I say "normally" meaning reading or choosing what to read. I do spend a significant amount of time fiddling and testing things. I consider that non-typical use of the devices.
