OK, so, I got it to work, but I have no idea why it worked. I converted MOBI to MOBI, and checked the box that says "Use author sort for author." (I then sent that converted file to the Kindle, and it appeared in the correct place under last name.) But why did it work? If the value of Author sort was "Swift, Jonathan," how did checking this box and doing the conversion create a result any different from having the Author field be "Swift, Jonathan"?
