Yeah, but sometimes the battery thermistor is used for the Eink waveform selection.
Also, if your device is ever outside room temperature it could make a difference for charging.
If you can salvage the old thermistor, that's a bit better.
Are you sure that it's a simple thermistor?
You might try UsbMode.apk (in my signature). It will tell you what your device considers the battery temperature to be.
