So far, no one has been able to use the serial port to JB or downgrade firmware on a PW4 which would be the other possibility.
Thanks a lot for the information. I have now been able to get KUAL, mrinstaller and koreader running again, added renameotabin and used it to rename the executables that might otherwise update the Kindle. I hope that this is enough to stop the Kindle from updating again.
