I don't think it is the battery. If it was, it should start when plugged into power.
The computer not seeing the device is expected. They do not automatically present themselves to the computer. This is done by software and will prompt to do it.

Thanks for the battery/sd card clarification. Thanks also for the link. I restored correctly on a 32GB card. I used USB Image Tool, then extended the KOBOeReader partition with minitool partition wizard. I inserted the new card, but it did not produce the desired effect. I am still stuck with the frozen screen on page 45.
I don't know if it's relevant to say that the original SD card (8GB) is not damaged because it's read directly by the windows explorer. It is immediately detected as 'KoboeReader' (with formatting prompt); all epubs are inside. The other partitions are visible with minitool.
I'm afraid that the chances of recovery are low. I also disconnected/reconnected the battery. No result. I also don't understand why I can't properly trigger the hard reset manually.
I am interested in your opinion?
