My understanding is that is is supposed to gather some info from infected computers and send it "home" to the hacker. I don't know if there is a time frame that expires or not. If I stay disconnected from the net, I can see from the news how bad the damage is (or isn't) and decide what to do from there (though I can go online with my Kindle if I need to).

I just visited the Symantec website and they have a removal tool already. I'm running it now (though I don't know if I have the worm).
