The update check doesn't use the email address. It uses a model number, the current firmware version, the affiliate and the serial number. The affiliate is probably being ignored for previews. The serial number is the important bit here.

But, any time a sync is done, it will check for the update and download it. If you don't have WiFi on, then you won't see it, but, if you do it will be a pain.
