Firstly, I checked the MD5sum for the file and it matches what you sent.
What is on the screen is just an indication of what was last written to it. Eink screens do not need power to maintain the image. Once something is drawn there, it will stay there until something else is drawn.
My usually suggestions at this point are:
- Check all the cables and the SD card is seated correctly.
- Try a manual factory reset.
- Try a new SD card. A larger one can be used and the space recovered later.
- Charge the device for at least an hour before. Don't assume the battery is charged just because it was when you last used it.
- Leave the device on charge overnight.
- Examine the screen to make sure the backplane hasn't been damaged. If you can see the back, it is can be more obvious.
- Try with the power plugged in. If the battery is dead, it should start.
