RMSDK is the underlying software for ADE. It's what Kobo uses to read ePub and for the ePub DRM.
If RMSDK was dumped, we'd lose the ability to borrow most eBooks from Overdrive.
The problem is that the version of RMSDK used by Kobo is not the latest version. Kobo is not using the latest version (I think) because if they did, then there would be no need to Access (KePub) as the latest RMSDK does support ePub 3.
