Yes, there is a watermark in the Kindle eBooks even after the DRM has been removed. So if you do put them on the net, they can be traced back to whoever purchased it.
So given that you don't trust your friends enough to not release these eBooks onto the net, don't give them a copy. You could get in pretty big trouble.
