Yep. That's been my experience (though, admittedly, I haven't tried installing Ubuntu lately). Another thing Linux Mint does better (in my opinion) is that it, by default, enables the "extra" repositories that Ubuntu doesn't. With a Linux Mint one of the first things I do after installation is install JOE (Joe's Own Editor). With Ubuntu I have to install an "extras" repository first. Not a big deal, but an extra step.
