@Machinus: You shouldn't *ever* try to replace the default- file. That's not how this works.
You *may* want to modify the overlay, but, again, it's useless if you're not actually using overlay mode.
So: what *are* you trying to do, exactly?
(And Windows' info thingy doesn't cut it, I'd need the output from ImageMagick's identity -verbose tool to confirm the format).
