Yes you are quite right. That is exactly what collections are. They are folders that only have symbolic links to the ebooks. Granted it may not be implemented that way on the device, ie using symlinks on the file system. But, the end result is the same.
If only they would let you Nest collections that would be great, it would be like TAGS and Folders in a way.
