Have you tried contacting Amazon customer support for web chat. That is what you're being told to do on the screen.

I've never seen a kindle like that, what generation is it? It may just be time to invest in a 'new' one, even if it's a barely used one from ebay. I bought a PW3 for £60 from ebay, and it's fine.
