Blood Heir is the most recently published (January, 2021) Ilona Andrews book, featuring Julie, Kate's ward/adopted daughter as the main protagonist. This provided a wonderful dose of escapism for me during the winter Covid-19 surge. IA's best known series, Kate Daniels, is probably my least favorite of theirs - although I still like it a lot, I just like others more. But I really liked this spin-off title - Julie's snark, a good dose of romantic tension, a great plot, and a little bit of philosophizing about systems of governance (really!) made it a lot of fun. And even though it was self-pubbed, it hit pretty high on a number of best seller lists, including #7 (and maybe higher) on the Kindle US overall best-seller list shortly after it was came out.
Blood Heir has just dropped to $1.49 at Kindle US, which is by far the lowest price I've seen it at since it was published. IA have indicated on their website that it was received well enough that they will be doing at least one more book in the series, after they fulfill some other commitments...
