Blocking the other devices might have caused problems, especially if they were on older firmware. The Dropbox syncing is between the device and Dropbox. There might be a check with the Kobo server for if the device is allowed to do the sync, but, as there is no way to do the configuration on the other devices, even that might not be needed.
