When in the mood I recite lyrics from Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb: Hello. Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home?

I keep hoping I am going to hit someone that recognises the lyrics and will recite them back to me, but so far no luck. Generally they or I get sick of it before I get to "There is no pain, you are receding, a distant ship smoke on the horizon. You are only coming through in waves. Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying", so sometimes I skip ahead just to get those in because I think the lines work so well for such calls.

Of course, these minor amusements are much less amusing now that so many junk calls are using automation rather than people. There have been a couple recently that really caught me off guard: you can only tell they are recordings after having received the same greeting for the umpteenth time.
