Remember, the size of the books (or dive) has no bearing on opening.
Calibre reads the DB (this can get quite large), calculates any custom fields, icons... before it can display . Less (calculations) is more speed.

If you have Grid or Cover browser enabled, then it has to fetch and render the thumbnails. Off is faster

And remember the temp folder is used for throw away (after the session)
Whitelist the Library folder (all books should have been scanned before import).
How is your RAM % usage (task manager), tight, might force swapping other things out. Speaking of SWAP. make sure it is on the fastest drive and not your USB one
