I was talking to rcentros, she seemed concerned about data usage, and ads I bdlieve, will use a lot more data than sidewalk.

Ok, then by that logic, it is a problem for existing owners, but not for future owners; if you are a future owner, YOU will have purchased the device and purchased the functionality.
