If you know what's responsible for mounting it, that would also tell me something. I'm wondering if this is a Gnome-specific problem or bug.
Honestly, I've never paid attention. I occasionally plug it in to test something. It's my work machine, so I'll try and remember to look it when I'm next in the office. But, I don't remember doing anything special. Just connected it and started calibre.
