If it was stored in a cool environment and not subjected to extreme temperatures (such as being in a storage unit), you should be OK. I wouldn't expect "weeks" of charge, but it sounds like you're off to a good start.
I've had mine since it came out and still is my favorite of all the variations of the Kindle series. Enjoy your new purchase and keep us posted if you see any other odd behaviors.
