Perhaps a tablet (Android or Apple) would be a better choice. Even the newer colour ereaders with a Kaleido screen look more like a comic book than a display I could consider acceptable for a photo display.

Pretty much any eInk display requires power only when changing the display so the display will be visible during sleep or power off.
