Actually that's what I thought too. But since I got my first reader with warm light (Oasis 3), I've found I can't do without it any more. It makes a huge difference when you read in artificial light and in a relatively dim room (as I do for most of the autumn and winter period). Before experiencing it myself, I didn't get what the deal with it was and thought like you that I probably wouldn't use it.
In broad daylight I switch the comfort light off.
