I just realised that these are throwaway devices. Try finding a replacement battery for an e-reader. The only ones you will find are for early Kindles or Sony devices. There have already been questions raised about the Boyue batteries but they do not supply or fit replacements.
Ideally the device would show a battery reading when you try to turn it on but that feature presumably can't be incorporated into the firmware.
