I used the wrong words. It was more that after telling people all day that they weren't allowed in the store without an appointment I felt like a whiny b***h at the end of the day. It was mentally draining, so I'm glad we don't have to do that anymore.
Luckily our store is small and closing time isn't much of a problem. If someone comes in when we're about to close (usually after the officially listed closing time) we help him, but before we do we close the door, both as a hint to the customer (be quick) and so no other customers can come in. A bigger problem is the customers who know we live over the shop and ring the doorbell when we're closed for non-emergency shopping because they think we should do that because we live over the store.
I worked at the cash registers at Ikea for two summers. We were the one department that closed last. There were people trying to enter the store through the exit when the entrance was already closed because they wanted to shop. Once there was a man who we had to call security for because he threw a fit because we wouldn't let him in; he wanted to buy a kitchen (which isn't a simple purchase).
