Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I have several Touch HD/HD2 devices and it seems, this is a common failure. I suspect some failure in the higher voltage creation for the screen polarization. Some of the devices started working after some time again but I couldn't locate the culprit. It's definitely hardware failure.
