I think the creator of the book was using the landmarks for something they weren't really intended for. Or just did it what they were for. From some quick reading, they are supposed to show the major sections of the book for navigation and accessibility.

Regarding the landmarks. They weren't at all that big in size in the other two books, but somehow it seems that the conversion to kepub in combination with those landmarks (or something) messed things up. At least with one of them ("Generation..."). I know for sure caused this problem. Not sure about the third one.
