I didn't know that you could find Kobo e-readers from China.
Some user reviews mention that they are customs seized; some offers mention slight defects (scratches). This would confirm that they are perhaps second hand
I noticed that the offers were mainly for discontinued models.
There is however the Kobo Clara HD.
There is no way to know if they are counterfeits. Do you have any clue about the authenticity of your device?

PS : I was surprised to discover the existence of a Kobo Glo HD 16GB model.
I thought the only official model had only 4GB
