Agreed. And even outside of that group. There are many fairly mainstream genre authors who use Wattpad and the like to disseminate side projects and gauge fan reaction.

Indeed. Wattpad--albeit not my cuppa, mind you--is just a less nerdy, easier-to-use, smartphone-friendly fanfiction.net, really. For those seeking a place for their creative outlets, trying to build a fanbase, whether writing fanfic or something more independent...not a bad spot. I can easily see Amazon thinking that they could monetize this AND if one thinks about it--any author could use it to find their reading demographic, too, if their writing leans in that demographic age group.
