Heh. Yeah.

Although, I did have to let the system download and install 280 updates before I was able to get Gnome to stabilize. At least, I think it has stabilized now. (Interesting. FF wants me to spell it "stabilise." I have nothing against British spelling, but it's not what I usually use for my work or studies, so I suppose I should find this parameter and change it....)

Still working out a few bits and pieces, anyway, but I'm much happier now. I really can't be spending half my time trying to figure out which bit of malware-du-jour I've got this time. Since the department balked at getting me a Mac laptop, this'll do. (There are a small number of applications I'm not confident will run under Ubuntu, but I do have a spare PC at work if I absolutely need to run one of them, and a desktop Mac at home.)
