I'm using the method from the one-click install thread which installs Nickel. I haven't been able to find instructions to bypass Nickel, although I'm interested in this since I don't have a Kobo account or Overdrive. Has someone documented installing Plato this way and using Calibre with it? I get what you're describing with the database vs. simple folder-based usage but I don't know the difference between the two plugins you mentioned with respect to Plato.

For what it's worth, I was able to connect my ereader to Calibre while Plato was running and the books transferred fine, even though I'm still using Kobo Touch Extended (with the extended features checkbox unchecked), although the native reader couldn't see the books.

I'm new to this scene; apologies for my ignorance. I've done my best to search the forum for these questions but didn't find much success. Thanks for your help.
