Sadly many people do use the same password on more than one site and many do use simple easy to guess, but more than a few tries unless you know them.

Or people don't change the default on Routers (so vulnerable to attacks via adverts in a web browser) or packages. Default on Sage used to be letmein

So browser based javascript in adverts can easily do brute force attacks on your router and other things. Websites that completely block anyone using ANY script blocking such as uMatrix, noScript or uBlock are obscene. Google doesn't check the the people they sell adverts to.

Cinema / TV cracking is unrealistic, but the reality is pretty ghastly. Do not simply add numbers to a word or spell a word with numbers or use a single real word.

Write financial ones in an address book never kept with the laptop/tablet/phone. Put all in that. Different long password for every site and email and only let the browser store sites with no personal or financial data. Master aka Main password on the browser.
