A "Hide/Show Cover" option in the panel right click menu wouldn't go astray.

I've already been doing that. It can be a pain.

I've also been trying narrow view. It allows me to show a small cover image, but either I have to cut the book list very short, or scroll to check the metadata.

It's hard to correct the metadata from the cover grid or the info popup.
