To me it looks like the lattice work of the back plastic back panel, such as I found in the Kobo's. Gravity would put pressure on the screen to force it onto the back panel. I'll open it up one of these days: If there is indeed such a lattice, I'll have to fill it with something...Don't know what yet, because all the usual materials would make the reader more heavy.
Is there a disassembly of the Note Pro with pictures here on mobileread? Then we would know.
EDIT:
From the photo's of the Note disassembly, I don't see enough lattice work that would explain this. The metal frame supporting the screen should be smooth on the screen side.

Yes it happened about a year or year and a half in, it doesn’t affect function but makes reading along the edges harder and is annoying. The cs agent described it as ‘bright spots,’ but the strange diagonal pattern makes me think its some glue or something with the construction that shows up later. I couldnt find anything on screen disassembly for onyx either, but the kobo has a diffusing layer for front lights, i’m wondering if its something to do with that. It’s all along the outside edge of the screen where it meets the black.
