I just read Lonesome Dove a few months ago and it was really good, his only book I've read. I didn't know he also wrote The Last Picture Show and Terms of Endearment, both made into great films (especially The Last Picture Show, and we also just lost Cloris Leachman not so long ago who did a great job in that film), and he also worked on adapting the script for Brokeback Mountain, another great film.
